WARDOGS | Road to Season 2

Our next DEVLOG, which recaps Season 01 and previews some of Season 02's major content, is out now.

Season 01 is coming to a close. And man, what a rollercoaster it has been.

Watching the game evolve as the metagame shifts, while you learn and adapt to the ever changing sandbox of WARDOGS, has been a developer’s dream. 3+ million sales and counting. We cannot thank you enough.

We didn’t get here by patting ourselves on the back or pretending the game was perfect. We got here through hard work, communication and, most importantly, clarity. Continuing with that clarity is exactly what we feel we owe you for buying into WARDOGS at such an early stage in development.

If you’d rather hop back in at a later update, or wait for 1.0, that’s completely okay. You owe us nothing. We’ll still be here, working on WARDOGS, for whenever you want to play.

SEASON 2 PREVIEW - NEW CONTENT

Full Patch notes including balance changes will be dropping early next week.

Four New Weapons

  • TCX Spear - Assault Rifle.
  • M14 - DMR.
  • PP-19 Bizon - SMG.
  • Evo-3 Ultra - LMG.

Supported by a range of new attachments.

New Molotov Throwable

  • Molotov - A thrown incendiary that splashes fire on impact and damages anyone caught in its radius. Throw overarm or underarm - this item is intended damage and area denial.

Four New Vehicles

  • Wolf-110 - A fast, light wheeled transport.
  • Wolf-110 (Assault) - The Wolf-110 with a ring-mounted M2 Browning.
  • T-72 - A main battle tank. Slower than the Leopard, but cheaper and far more fuel-efficient.
  • Flakpanzer Gepard - Anti Air Vehicle.

Three New Buildables

  • MG Nest - A manned M2 Browning emplacement.
  • Large Shelter - A large metal shelter for covering key assets or keeping the rain off.
  • Wooden Step - A step. Made of wood.

New Rain Weather Preset

A new weather preset that changes visibility, engagement ranges and sound. Rain interacts with the environment, including damaged and destroyed structures. Thunder is synchronised across the server and can temporarily mask footsteps, opening up new tactical opportunities mid fight.

New Experimental Wager Vendor

During Season 02 we're adding a feature we’ve wanted to try for a while: the Wager Vendor.

This is a first pass at a genuinely experimental Early Access feature. We intend to expand it over time, and we may well pull it from the game during the season if it turns out to be too exploitable. You’re seeing it early, and we’ll be honest with you about how it holds up.

  • The Wager Vendor lets you bet on yourself. Win big or lose it all.
  • Choose your objectives, set how many deaths you’re willing to spend completing them, then set your stake and try to profit against the odds. Getting X kills in the hotzone, delivering a number of players, and more besides. The more objectives you stack onto a wager, the longer the odds and the bigger the payout.
  • A live wager tracker sits above the minimap, showing your stake and your progress toward winning or losing it.
  • It’s entirely optional, and it takes the cash reward systems WARDOGS is already built around and dials the stakes all the way up. Back yourself and get paid. Or don’t, and watch it burn.

Key In-Game Balance Updates

  • Infrared Rangefinder - Now runs on batteries.
  • Helmets - The Super Heavy Helmet now comes with muffled audio, a restricted field of view, and will fog over when you’re sprinting. Heavy and Super Heavy helmets also get increased suppression resistance in line with the new suppression changes, so they fulfil their protective role in more ways than just damage reduction.
  • Combat balancing - Adjustments to weapon damage, recoil and suppression, with the aim of establishing clearer roles across weapon classes.

Improvements to squad coordination, vehicle handling, controller responsiveness and progression, additional rewards for teamplay and logistics, plus performance optimisations, bug fixes and server stability work.

Faction Balance

WARDOGS isn’t supposed to be perfectly balanced at all times. But one team has had a notoriously lower win rate than the other two. There are valid complaints around Lonestar’s uniform visibility and certain spawn positions, which we’ve been watching and addressing. After looking at all the data, though, sentiment around the blue team is the largest driving factor behind players not wanting to play on it.

So we’re running a social experiment with Season 2 to see if and how that affects their win rate and perception long term. Lonestar is an established PMC backed by one of the world’s leading economies. Lonestar has cash... and Lonestar needs you.

  • All faction spawns have moved on Bakurani.
  • Lonestar uniforms are more desaturated, so they stand out less against the other factions.
  • Lonestar faction cash and XP win bonus, Season 2 only.
  • Lonestar faction cash and XP multipliers, Season 2 only.
  • A new vendor discount for the losing team: 20% off if they’re at least 40 points behind second place. This applies to all teams, not just Lonestar.
  • Community server hosts found to be exploiting the faction bonus will be punished.

WARDOGS | SEASON 02 PRESS CONFERENCE

In our ongoing efforts to communicate with players more effectively, maximise our reach with Season 02 information and open the floor for more WARDOGS content, we decided to do something we’ve never seen another developer do. A pre-season press conference, which you can watch in full here:

Video▶ Watch on YouTube

We invited a mix of press and content creators to our first ever pre-season conference to ask us questions based on the patch notes you’re reading today.

This is part of our plan to get more content out to players across different platforms, to be real about the state of the game during Early Access, and to explain the longer form rationale behind our decisions.

The formats we intend to support:

  • Official Trailers. Wide FPS player reach.
  • Official VLOGs. Hardcore WARDOGS player content.
  • Press Conferences. Experimental, long format for diehard players.
  • Official Podcast. In progress, requires work.
  • Social Accounts. Discord, X, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook.
  • X Developer Accounts. To the minute reactions, banter and updates.

This pilot episode was a trial run to see whether it’s something you’d like us to continue.

Let us know what you think of the format.
